We're a small team of Los Angeles cat lovers who got tired of buying toys that broke in five minutes — so we stopped complaining and started making them ourselves.
A Silver Lake apartment,
one destructive cat,
and a better idea
It started in 2022 in a Silver Lake apartment when our founder, Jessica, watched her rescue cat Mochi obliterate yet another $15 toy from the pet store — in under four minutes. The packaging had said "durable." The seam gave way in one bite.
Jessica had spent years working in textile design in Downtown LA's fashion district. She knew materials. She knew construction. She knew what "durable" should actually mean. So one Saturday morning, she cleared the kitchen table and started sewing.
The first prototype — a catnip-stuffed fish stitched from organic cotton and sealed with double-reinforced seams — survived Mochi's most aggressive session. Then it survived a week. Then a month. Her neighbor Daniela asked for one for her cat. Then Daniela's coworker. Then strangers on Instagram.
By the end of 2022, what had started at a kitchen table in Silver Lake had become CaChew Toys — a small but fiercely committed company operating out of Los Angeles, built on the conviction that cat owners deserve honest, safe, genuinely durable toys. That conviction hasn't changed. Only the scale has.
